Since 1954, the Alliance française de Karachi has served as a thriving French language centre, cultural centre and event space in the heart of Clifton, Karachi.
what we do
The Alliance française de Karachi is a Pakistani nonprofit organization registered under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860. We are affiliated with the Alliance Française, an international organization with the mission of promoting the French language, Francophone culture, and cultural diversity in cities around the world.
The Alliance française de Karachi isn’t just a language school. It’s also a bustling cultural centre and melting pot. Come enjoy our year-round program of concerts, performances, plays, art exhibitions, conferences and talks featuring Pakistani and French personalities. We also welcome you to our library, bookshop, art gallery and café as well as our French language courses, workshops and cultural events.
The Alliance Française de Karachi also offers French-English translation services. Please send us an email for inquiries.
We are proud to host French archaeological and anthropological teams during their time in Pakistan as well as researchers from Sciences Po, CNRS and other French institutions.
With a diverse community of Francophiles, film lovers, students, researchers, artists, travelers, and thinkers, the Alliance Française de Karachi is an important part of Karachi’s artistic and cultural life and is the largest French cultural centre in Pakistan.
the Alliance Française network
The Alliance Française is a unique network founded in Paris in 1883 by Paul Cambon and Pierre Foncin with luminaries like the scientist Louis Pasteur, the diplomat Ferdinand de Lesseps, the writers Jules Verne and Ernest Renan, and the publisher Armand Colin serving on the board of directors. Today, La Fondation Alliance Française is a truly global network with over 834 centers in 132 countries, on 5 continents.
All Alliances Françaises work towards three essential tasks:
Offering French classes for all, both in France and abroad
Spreading awareness of French and Francophone culture
Promoting cultural diversity
Alliances Françaises have shared values that drive the network, acting as the basis for all their actions:
Respect for cultural diversity, a passion for exchanges and solidarity
The values of the not-for-profit sector
Conviviality
Striving for excellence in all activities undertaken
Modernity and innovation
